Your UPI ID

Picking your UPI app, the UPI ID format, and where to change it later.

On this page

Pick your UPI app

Choose the app your UPI ID is with. Each one shows a hint for its ID format.

  • PhonePe Business: UPI ID like shopname@ybl
  • Paytm Business: UPI ID like shopname@paytm
  • Google Pay Business: UPI ID like shopname@okaxis
  • Bank UPI ID: Your bank app's UPI ID
  • Other: Any UPI ID

UPI ID and payee name

Your UPI ID must look like a real UPI handle, for example shopname@okaxis. If it does not, you will see:

  • "Enter your UPI ID." when the field is empty.
  • "Enter a valid UPI ID, like shopname@okaxis." when it does not match the format.

The payee name is what customers see in their UPI app when they pay you. Keep it as it is with your bank, between 2 and 60 characters:

  • "Enter the payee name (as it is with your bank)." when it is too short.
  • "Keep the payee name under 60 characters." when it is too long.

Changing your UPI ID later

Go to Settings, then UPI accounts, to change your UPI ID or payee name at any time. A changed UPI ID only applies to payment links you create after the change: links you already shared keep paying into the UPI ID that was saved when you created them, until they expire.

The UPI ID chip

Once you have a UPI ID saved, it shows as a chip near the top of every app page, so you can always see which UPI ID customers are paying into.

More than one UPI account

You can add more UPI accounts under Settings, UPI accounts, "Add UPI account". Each account has its own UPI ID, payee name, and its own connected Gmail for payment alerts: an account only ever confirms payments from its own Gmail, never another account's. Give each account a short name (for example "Shop counter" or "Online orders") so you can tell them apart when you create a payment link.

One account is always your default: it is used for every API and embed order that does not name an account, and for the "Add your UPI ID first" step during setup. You can make any other account the default at any time; it needs a UPI ID first.

How many UPI accounts you can add depends on your plan: Free 1, Dukaan 2, Business 5, Pro 10, and Custom up to 100. Adding one more than your plan allows is refused. If your plan changes and you now have more accounts than it allows, the extra ones over the limit are paused, starting with the newest, non-default accounts first. A paused account does not stop working: it can still be edited, reconnected, and its Gmail keeps being read, so a link you already shared on it still confirms; it just cannot be used to create a new link until you upgrade, remove an account, or make it your default (which switches it on and pauses another instead).

Removing an account (Settings, UPI accounts, "Remove account") is a soft removal: its Gmail is disconnected and it can no longer create links, but its past orders stay in your history. You cannot remove your default account, or an account with a link that could still be paid.
